Who is eligible to register to vote?

Individuals who reside in North Carolina for at least 30 days and are 18 years of age on Election Day. 

​

Residents of North Carolina that are 16 or 17 years of age may pre-register to vote, but cannot participate in an election until they turn 18.

How can I verify my voter registration status?

You can verify your voter registration status via the official page of the North Carolina Board of Elections.

What is the deadline to register to vote in North Carolina?

The voter registration deadline is 25 days before the day of the election. 

​

This year the deadline to register to vote is October 14, 2022. In North Carolina people may also register to vote during the Early Voting period.

What does it mean to pre-register to vote?

Residents of North Carolina can pre-register to vote as soon as they turn 16 years old. Pre-registered voters may not participate in an election until they turn 18, and must indicate in their voter registration form that they are not 18 years old yet.

Can I register to vote after October 14?

North Carolina allows voters to register during the early voting period – this process is called Same-Day Voter Registration. Voters must check-in at one of the early voting centers in their county and meet all eligibility requirements. After registering you will be able to vote right away.

This year the Same-Day Voter Registration period runs from October 20, 2022 until November 5, 2022 at 3pm. You can find a list of early voting centers in your county by clicking here.

How do I register to vote by mail?

Voters can request an absentee ballot to vote by mail. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is November 1, 2022.

I was convicted of a felony, can I still register to vote?
