Who is eligible to register to vote?

Must be a US Citizens that has resided in Michigan for at least 30 days and will be at least 18 years of age on Election Day. 

​

Residents of Michigan that are 17 1/2 years of age may pre-register to vote, but cannot participate in an election until they turn 18.

What is the deadline to register to vote in Michigan?

The voter registration deadline is 14 days before the day of the election. 

​

You can register to vote and vote in person up until and on Election Day at your city or township clerk’s office.

​

This year the deadline to register to vote is October 25, 2022.

What does it mean to pre-register to vote?

Residents of Michigan can pre-register to vote as soon as they turn 17 1/2 years old. Pre-registered voters may not participate in an election until they turn 18.

How do I register to vote within 14 days of an election?

You can register to vote and vote in person up until and on Election Day at your city or township clerk’s office. We encourage you to register and vote early if you can. You must be in your city or township clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day in order to register and vote in the general election.

How do I register to vote by mail?

Voters can request an absentee ballot to vote by mail. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is October 29, 2022. 


The vote by mail application can be completed in one of the 3 following ways:

  1. In-person at your county's Supervisor of Elections

  2. By calling your county's Supervisor of Elections

  3. By signed writing (email, fax, scanned attachment by email)

I was convicted of a felony, can I still register to vote?
